Welcome to Join our Biannual Meetings

The meetings are the principal focus of Trans Europe Halles. Time, energy and resources are invested to produce dynamic and informative meetings that are responsive to the member
s’
needs.

Organised twice a year and hosted by a different member centre each time, the meetings are a tool to introduce new countries and cultural centres to the participants. Every meeting has a specific theme corresponding with the specific expertise or context ofthe hosting centre. Examples of meeting themes over the last couple of years include sustainability (TEH Meeting 58, ufaFabrik, Berlin, Germany), support for emerging artists (TEH Meeting 60, The Junction, Cambridge, UK), issues off the bordering states of Europe (TEH Meeting 63, Arts Printing House, Vilnius, Lithuania) and marketing (TEH Meeting 64, Korjaamo and Verkatehdas, Helsinki and Hämeenlinna, Finland).

Independent sector always in focus
The organisation, vision, activities and programmes as well as the local context are all of interest to the participants. For example, one session during the programme of TEH Meeting 66 at Tou Scene,Stavanger, Norway in September 2008 was dedicated to the European Capital ofCulture Programme. A natural choice, as Stavanger was the European Capital of Culture in 2008. The session focused on the Programme’s impact on the independent sector, an aspect largely neglected by the research and writings on the topic so far.

Informal meetings as important as the official programme
For many members the unofficial part of the meetings is as important as the official one. When you come to a Trans Europe Halles Meeting you see intense conversations going on everywhere; in one corner a group of people are discussing a project for emerging bands touring Europe; in another, someone is asking for advice on how to run the restaurant in their centre; by the entrance someone is describing a great performance to two others. The air is filled with excitement and different ways of communicating.

Real meetings cannot be replaced by virtual encounters. True interaction leads to long-lasting relationships and that is what the network is about. We therefore welcome you to join the next TEH Meeting as a guest, a most inspiring experience!
