Naples, Italy

L’Asilo is an independent centre for artistic, social and cultural production run by an informal community of artists, activists and researchers who are both responsible for the care of the facilities and the cultural and artistic programming taking place in the building.
The cooperative model developed by L’Asilo is that of the commons, where self-government is present by means of an open and public General Assembly that takes place every Monday. Activities are organised in thematic groups of permanent discussion places that favour the encounter, exchange and cooperation of artists, activists, cultural and social workers using the spaces to discuss proposals and program activities.
Activities take place every day simultaneously in the different parts of the building (theatre, library, refectory, gallery, armoury,  cripta, garden, chapel) that have been equipped with technology by the community to make means of production available to a wide number of artists, activists and researchers.

Concerts, dance and theatre performances, cine forum, creative residences, long-term or short-term intensive workshops, meetings, seminars, conferences, urban gardening, social activities/interaction with the neighbourhood and many other activities in the field of artistic and cultural practices with a particular attention to contemporary creation.

Former use of the building: XVI century convent also used as an orphanage
