Riga, Latvia

“Culture and Arts Project NOASS” is one of the oldest non-governmental arts and culture organisations in Latvia. NOASS’ goal is to participate in the formation of the Latvian and European cultural environment. They primarily support the realisation of contemporary arts projects in an urban environment, making art part of the daily lives of residents of Riga and visitors to the city.

The centre has previously produced arts events linked to moving images as part of various international cultural events. Since 2001 NOASS has organised the International Video and Contemporary Art Festival “Waterpieces”, an annual festival of video and contemporary art which consists of a Baltic audio-visual art competition as well as screenings of international programs, thus providing comprehensive insight into the latest works of contemporary art linked to the moving image. Over a number of years NOASS has established and built the platform for the Latvian Video Art Archive – the only national video art database.

In autumn of 2006 NOASS established the Naïve Art Museum of Latvia. This has provided the general public with an introduction to the work of masters of Naïve art in the context of modern art. This year, The Naïve Art Museum of Latvia celebrated its 8th season. Since 2007 NOASS is a proud member of TEH and due to the network, the centre has functioned as a European Volunteer Services sending organisation since 2008, thus promoting the mobility of young people who are interested in cultural and arts events among various public organisations.
