Subtopia is a spacious suburban paradise situated in Alby, a multicultural suburban area in the outskirts of Stockholm, Sweden. Subtopia’s main purpose is to develop creative industries in the area and to be a platform where cultural entrepreneurs can realise their dreams. Their focus areas are circus, street performance and film but among the 80 organizations that are located at Subtopia, there are a wide range of different kinds of art and culture.

The core of Subtopia’s method lays in collaborations between culture, education, business and social engagement.  The belief that this mix leads to innovation and creativity makes Subtopia into a place of diversity, and this paradise is filled with suburban festivals, international guest performances as well as political discussions, conferences and business development. Subtopia is a joint-stock company owned by the municipality of Botkyrka and was founded in 2002 in an old experimental farm built in the beginning of the 20th century by LM Ericsson, the founder of the telecommunication company Ericsson.
