Hämeenlinna, Finland

Verkatehdas is a new-generation arts and conference centre with a wide conception of culture, combining both public and private services and civic activities. Verkatehdas is an organic and accessible combination of industrial heritage and modern architecture, where the unique atmosphere and character of the old industrial buildings are preserved. Construction work on a new concert hall and cinema started in June 2005 and finished in mid 2007. Today, Verkatehdas is among one of the largest European cultural centres housed in re-purposed factories. Currently the quarter is home to the multi-functional concert venue Kulttuuritukku, the Art Museum, the City Theatre, the Children’s Art Centre ARX, Radio YLE, the Mini-Theatre, designers and artist studios, production offices and an advertising agency.
