Anti-Eviction Mapping Project

In this presentation, Erin McElroy of the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project will explore some of the intersections of art and gentrification. Drawing upon examples from the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles in the U.S., as well as Bucharest and Cluj in Romania, McElroy will demonstrate how new art spaces and infrastructure can result in increased property values, cultural loss, and racial banishment. At the same time, McElroy will provide examples of arts-based practice and collectives rooted in housing justice that can be a part of communal efforts to resist gentrification and dispossession.
